&lt;p&gt;Well, I needed to update my apps so I had to do whatever Apple could do for me. To do that, I had to do an online chat with someone. Turns out that was mostly painless. The annoying thing, beyond not being able to merge with my existing Apple ID, is that the tech support person didn&#039;t give me a choice in picking my new Apple ID. So, while my old AOL ID was something like &quot;mycrappyaolname@aim.com&quot; the new Apple ID is simply &quot;mycrappyaolname.&quot; Annoying. But at least it works now. Also, just the other day my girlfriend was having the exact same problem as me and had to go through an online tech support person to resolve the problem. Apple is totally dropping the ball on this one.&lt;/p&gt;

		<description>&lt;p&gt;Ran across your blog while searching for a similar solution.  I&#039;ve contact iTunes support about it and they&#039;ve basically told me to create a new account.  Really frustrating.  They suggested sending feedback to them to allow this which i&#039;ve done.  I basically told them I won&#039;t be buying anything from iTunes until they can link my iTunes account to my current Apple ID.  Here&#039;s the feedback link:&lt;/p&gt;
