Purchased a new mac yesterday, tried to use Photoshop CS4 from an external hard drive, got the licensing error. Command line trick worked a treat, kudos to Erik for finding this but Adobe need to get their act together and provide a dmg that actually works for Lion.

Great! The "Lion fix" worked for me (on Snow Leopard). I'm glad somebody posted this single command line that does the job: the LicenseRecoveryLauncher wanted me to install Rosetta to run!!! Yikes!
Seriously, why are you Adobe the only ones to do this kind of nasty trick to honest customers (personally I bumped into this problem after a Time Machine restoration)?
Paranoid+incompetent, that's a bit too much.

Thank you so much for this! The terminal commands on the adobe website weren't working for me, but the ones you posted fixed everything in a flash.

Here's what worked for me: I switched to another mac and got my files & apps from a TimeMachine backup and here comes the error 150:30 above. Simply running the License Recovery tool didn't work, even after multiple restarts. However, removing the FlexNet Publisher and cache.db and running it again did work but I got promoted to enter my key again, which I don't have anymore, so here's how step-by-step how I got around it. Hope it helps someone.

I am on Lion OSX 10.7

A. First place in a safe place the following:
1. FlexNet Publisher folder:
[hard drive]/Library/Application Support/FlexNet Publisher/
2. Remove cache.db
library/application support/adobe/adobe PCD/cache/ cache.db

B. Download recovery tool (link above) and doubleclick to mount it.
Open Terminal:
cd /Volumes/LicenseRecovery\ 11.6.1/LicenseRecovery/
sudo python LicenseRecover.py

C. Start Photoshop, it will ask you for your Serial. Enter if you have it. And if you don't, just close photoshop and place back the file and folder (FlexNet Publisher and cache.db) that we removed above. Restart Photoshop again and you should have a smile on your face :)

i found your site looking for a way to get cs4 back running again.
i have an apple mbp running lion. i had some problems & called apple care. they had me start from the beginning & reinstalled from the osX.6 disc then redownloaded & installed lion. i had cs4 running before this w/ the hack from http://machacks.tv/2009/01/28/stop-adobe-cs4-calling-home-to-mother-ship-in-os-x/.
the 2nd tier mac rep was cool w/me & helped me migrate the cs4 from time machine. but i get the adobe 150:30 error when i launch, i went back & cleared the adobe PCD/ cache/ cache.db file . i've looked for the FLEXnet Publisher in both libraries but its not there. tried to run the terminal hack again. i paste:
sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts
Hit return and try to enter my admin password when prompted but it won't let me type my password in. it prompts for it but nothing happens .
can some one help me ?
